A Radstock company established with one lorry and one driver just over 30 years ago is celebrating a prestigious national award for its international service.
Parker Transport (SW) Ltd was crowned International Depot of the Year in the annual awards ceremony organised by the Fortec Distribution Network.
The award came after the company received the most votes from Fortec’s 65-strong network of licensees across the UK.
Founder Kelvin Parker and his wife Caroline, who is Joint Director of the firm, were among 250 guests who attended the event, held at Beaumont Park in Windsor.
It’s a far cry from the beginnings of the company which was founded when Kelvin found himself without a job, after being made redundant from his previous role. Today he and Caroline employ a 28-strong team that serves a client base of 60 to 70, primarily across the BA Bath postcode area.
Caroline said: “We are delighted to have been presented with this award. Our thanks to all our team, in particular Mat Gould who is our Pallet Manager. Mat is great with our customers. He speaks quite a few different languages which is great in his role as it means not only is he in a better position to help our customers, but we also do some work for Fortec’s parent company Geodis and with it, we deal with a lot of drivers from foreign countries. With his skills Mat is in a better position than any of us to help with any queries they may have.”
As well as the 28-employed staff, Parker Transport has a further 10 owner-drivers on its books. It operates a fleet of 15 vehicles, serving the client base.
Neil Hodgson, Managing Director of the Fortec Distribution Network, said: “Congratulations to Kelvin, Caroline and the team at Parker Transport on this latest win.
“The company is a long-standing licensee with Fortec and has consistently delivered for the network, winning awards in the past. It is highly respected among fellow licensees who obviously felt it the most deserving for this award.”
